We are a pole vault training program dedicated to growing and improving the sport of pole vault.  We do this by providing awareness, ongoing training and camps to Abilene and the surrounding areas as well as hosting local pole vault competitions. We are also very involved in the pole vault community on the State and National level and it is our goal to be your resource for anything pole vault!

What types of training does Vault Zone offer?

Pole Vault is a very complex sport/event that requires speed, strength, body awareness, focus, courage and so much more! Our goal is to teach vaulters using a progressive process that starts with the fundamentals and progresses each vaulter at their own pace. This is the best approach for safety and long term success. We have found over many years that the best format for accomplishing this is an ongoing training program and that is why we have narrowed our training programs down to the following two...

  • Annual Training - This is an annual training membership. This is the best option for the vaulter who wants to reach their maximum potential and is preparing to be successful in high school. This vaulter will train throughout the entire year focusing on training for speed, power, pole vault specific strength & conditioning, gymnastics training, technical vault training and mental/visual preparation. This vaulter CAN be a multi-sport athlete due to the fact that much of our training during the fall is only on weekends. Outside of their school track season, this vaulter will also have the option to compete with the club during indoor and summer competitions. These will include Fun Pole Vault ONLY competitions like the Expo Explosion, the the Texas Sunset Vault and more!!!

  • Seasonal Training (minimum of 3 months) - Seasonal membership is for someone who wants to train 3-6 consecutive months out of the year but not necessarily commit to the annual program. *This option is only available if there are spots available in the club at the time that you want to start your seasonal program*

Our goal is to develop pole vaulters, not run numbers through the door!  For this reason if the club is full we only accept new members during certain times of the year. This is typically in May after graduating seniors leave the club. Sometimes there may be a few spots that remain open during the Fall but the club is typically full by the time indoor season begins in January.

Is the Annual Training Program a contract?

Absolutely not, if at any point you decide that pole vault is not for you then you are welcome to cancel at any point. What you CAN-NOT do is cancel this month, wait two months and join back on the annual plan and repeat this process. If that is the case then you are not an annual member. The annual membership takes into account that each person's annual schedule is different and you will train more during certain times of the year and less in others depending on our schedule and yours.

Does Vault Zone offer camps?

We want to help every kid but that is not always possible.  So when we have kids who only jump for the few months during track season but want a little extra help, we have two options we offer.

  1. IN SEASON CLINICS - We try to offer an in season clinic one night per week for 4-6 weeks during track season. It is hard to develop vaulters in a short amount of time like this but we try to offer this so that maybe we can provide a few tips or pointers to help the in season vaulter and/or coach.

  2. DON HOOD SUMMER CAMPS - We typically host the Don Hood Summer Pole Camp at our facility in June of each year. This is a 3 day camp.

Does Vault Zone offer private lessons?

Very seldom do we offer private lessons.  If you are part of our club (annual training program) we evaluate your needs throughout the year and provide the coaching that you need...if you are a beginner for example, even though you are attending a group club practice you may be one on one with a coach. Or maybe we have a kid that is struggling with a certain skill so they need to do something separate than what the group is doing...in this situation we may have them working one on one with a coach on that specific skill.
